Best Age for Beginners

Guitar is unique in that it's difficult to start learning, but easier as you get the hang of it.  The hardest part is the technique - in getting a clear sound, especially with chords.  Many teachers will start between ages 7 and 10, but I have had success with even younger students.  The size of the guitar, type of strings, and even lowering the tuning can all be considered.  I also start very young students (and most everyone) on melody instead of chords.

Piano is much different.  Any age is good to begin, and piano is a great first instrument because of its design.  The arrangement of keys gives a frame of reference for learning the foundations of music.
